Clay Fallon '23 and Easton Sumlin '23 represented Dr. Smith's geology class by presenting their initial assessment of McFarland Creek in Bainbridge. This study aimed to characterize the stream to evaluate how it responds to continued residential development. Based on their findings, students proposed improving riparian vegetation and installing a toe wood structure to reduce bank erosion at nearby homes.
Connor Piero '23 and Sammy Weidenthal '23 represented Dr. Laux's ecology class, presenting the results from their study investigating the occurrence of bird collisions with campus windows during the fall migration. Students found the windows of the Matson conference room had the highest strike frequency and are installing anti-collision window decals to help reduce collisions during spring migration.
Matthew Devine '24 also presented his research investigating the effects of ultraviolet radiation as a means of removal on the adhesive fibers of invasive zebra mussels in Lake Erie.
