Mr. Devon Steve and student vocalists joined composer Eric Whitacre in a series of workshops hosted by The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Music Center in October.
The University School Glee Club was selected to participate in a 5-school workshop with Grammy Award-winning composer, Eric Whitacre. The Glee Club jointly learned and performed Whitacre's "Home" and "Goodnight Moon". Ethan Roberts ’25 said, “the sound of all of us together was incredible!”
Ian Broihier ’26, Manzili Denis ’24, Vishwum Kapadia ’25, Rohan Kumar ’24, Kingsten Lin ’25, and Hans Swain ’24 participated in a choral workshop session with Whitacre, as members of The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus. Mr. Steve helped to prepare the chorus, alongside the previous US Director of Music, Mr. Daniel Singer. Eric Whitacre posted the final product on his social media platforms.
Mr. Steve performed Eric Whitacre’s Sacred Veil as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. The Sacred Veil tells the story of love, loss, grief, and hope. The sold-out performance featured the composer at the podium, leading the chorus through this hour-long work.
