Theme Studies and Travels

Students at the Lower School embarked on many investigations in the classroom and beyond.

Aspiring marine biologists in Kindergarten visited the Greater Cleveland Aquarium to gather research for their Theme projects. They explored the freshwater and saltwater sections, encountered sharks, interacted with stingrays, and observed different fish species

From parade balloons to pollution solutions, families enjoyed the creative interpretations of the First Grade at their "Inventions: Learn from the Past, Change the Future" Theme Sharing evening. Each boy selected an inventor, researched their accomplishments, and crafted a portrait or other artwork for display.

Boys in the Second Grade were happy to present their "Communities Around the World" theme sharing. After studying entrepreneurial skills and researching markets in Ohio, Japan, and Turkey, students invited their families to shop for handmade products including pickles, apple butter, and soap.

Third-grade boys traveled to the Cleveland History Center of the Western Reserve Historical Society to further their study of local Native Americans. Early settlers arrived in the Western Reserve and found themselves sharing the land with the Eastern Woodland American Indians of the area. Students used artifacts and immersive games to explore the relationship between land use and daily life while comparing the two cultures.

The Ancient China theme took boys in Fourth Grade to the STEAMworks Innovation Lab to work on their detailed three-dimensional maps. Boys shared this giant classroom project at theme-sharing where families enjoyed the colors and the craft of vibrant Chinese lanterns, kites, dragons, legends, environment boards, zodiacs, abacuses, scrolls, and more.
