Despite the loss of several key offensive threats, the team returns a potent mix of offensive players of all ages. The attack will be paced by seniors Mac McCann and Mats Whitmyer with the help of junior Sam Strang and sophomore Clarke Jones. All four players earned varsity experience last year and will be counted on for their steady play this year. They will be supported by junior Rob Lee and sophomores Michael Papanikolaou and Bobby Mead.
The midfield on this year’s team offers a threat that most teams will struggle to contain. The Preppers’ first line midfield will be anchored by senior All-Region performer Conner Judson and junior All-State honoree Assistant Captain Hayes McGinley. Judson and McGinley combine size to dodge freely with explosive velocity on their shots to provide significant scoring threats every time down the field. The midfield will also feature seniors Jeff Reimann and Matt Wipper with sophomores Tyler Flynn, Jack McConnell, and TJ Bobinsky offering offensive support. Seniors Gaelen Hendrickson and Brad Marshall as well as juniors Mike Flynn and Eddie Gable will provide offensive contributions and be relied upon for defensive stops. Senior Matt Weisman will chip in his efforts as the faceoff X in support of McGinley and McConnell.
Defensively, the Preppers return a great deal of experience with five seniors. The aggressive defense will be led by senior Captains Kevin DeGulis, an All-State honoree, and Michael Classen, an All-Region honoree. They will be joined by fellow senior Corey Boeschenstein at close defense with seniors Chad Owen, an All-Region performer, and Sam Althans taking on the demanding role of long-stick midfield. The seniors on defense will be bolstered by the contributions of juniors Drew Musser and Ryan Reynolds at close defense and Max Monahan at LSM.
The defense will be backstopped in goal by sophomore Liam Ganzhorn. As a freshman, Ganzhorn was selected as the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Division 2 State Championship game. Junior Omar Almudallal will be counted upon to provide backing to Ganzhorn between the pipes.
The players’ efforts will be supported by sophomore team manager Mitch Barnhart and sophomore statistician Kyle Keane.
The Preppers, having won six consecutive regional championships with two State Championships (2008, 2009) and two runners-up, will again be led by Jack Fisher ’96 in his eighth year as head coach at US. Fisher will be assisted by Matt Bartley who joins US after a number of years as an assistant at Hudson. The Preppers’ JV is again helmed by Ben Hobbs ’96 who will be aided by Sam Thomas.
