The Buzz About the Bees

Two Spelling Bees and a Geography Bee tested students' skills and memory - on the school stage.

Shail Vakharia '32 correctly spelled "freewheeling" to win the Fourth-Grade Spelling Bee in January. Joseph Guyuron '32 and Lucas Hsieh '32 tied for second place. Head of School Mr. Gallagher was the official pronouncer and presented awards to the winners.

Winston Toplitz ’28 won the Middle School Spelling Bee in February by correctly spelling “jackdaw.” Ali Hussein ’31 earned second place, and Shail Vakharia ’32, the Lower School Bee Champion who earned the chance to compete with the older students, earned third!

Eight middle schoolers demonstrated their knowledge at the US Geography Bee in February. After many challenging rounds, Morgan Sedgwick '28 received 1st place, Anush Andi '31 came in 2nd place, and Nicholas Kuchik '28 received 3rd place. The GeoBee is designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world, with questions covering geography, cultures, physical features, history, earth science, and current events.
