Accomplished Middle-School writers participated in the district competition hosted at US.
University School hosted the Power of the Pen district tournament at the Hunting Valley Campus at the end of January. Fifteen schools participated in the tournament, and competitors had 40 minutes to write a first draft narrative, responding to prompts such as: The only one left. Where are the others? and The tiniest _______. Fill in the blank and use that phrase to shape your narrative.
The US Power of the Pen district team members were: Seventh graders Henry Bush, Manning Howard, Jack Levy, Dylan Murphy, Jaidan Shauf-Dressman, and Anwar Wazni, and eighth graders Jakob Bilger, Enzo Castro, Quentin Dengler, Leo DiSanto, Joey Malbasa, and Winston Toplitz.
Jakob Bilger '29 won second place among the eighth-grade writers and earned a spot at the regional competition along with Henry, Manning, Dylan, Jaidan, Anwar, Leo, and Joey.
