On November 5, the Lower School cast their votes to decide the name of the whale in Mr. Gallagher’s office.
In the weeks leading up to the election, boys immersed themselves in the voting process, learning about civic responsibility through activities like voter registration, a spirited debate between two teachers advocating for the names Dale and Waylon, and finally, casting their ballots. Colorful campaign signs adorned the halls and a visit from Shaker Heights Mayor David Weiss inspired the boys as they prepared to participate in their first election.
The results, revealed the next day, sparked excitement as Dale the Whale was declared the winner. This engaging, hands-on experience instilled meaningful lessons about voting and leadership that will stay with the boys for years to come.
