Zaid Ashruf ’25 faced Madeleine Burke of Hathaway Brown at the High School Debate Championship in March at The City Club of Cleveland. In this event broadcast live from the City Club, two of Northeast Ohio's top debaters are chosen to face off in a Lincoln Douglas debate.
The pair debated the resolution: The development of artificial general intelligence is immoral. As can happen in the debate world, just the previous week Zaid and Madeleine debated the same topic—on opposite sides.
While a full house of City Club guests enjoyed their lunch, in an exciting match of wits and a few moments that elicited some surprised gasps from the audience, the debaters demonstrated expert skill and respect in a close contest.
