University School Governance

The mission of University School’s Board of Trustees is to create plans, set policies, and take actions that will ensure the viability of the school for future generations of students. Accordingly, the board will develop and articulate the vision and mission of the school and support the administration’s implementation of the school’s programs through development and maintenance of appropriate resources.

Board Committees

  • Executive Committee

    Consist of the officers of the Corporation and have the authority to act for the Corporation, superintend the property and affairs of the Corporation and direct the conduct of the School.
  • Admission and Marketing Committee

    Provide advice for admissions and marketing strategies. Provide input into financial aid policies and strategies to boost enrollment and shape the profile of the student body.
  • Advancement Committee

    Monitor and support Annual Fund and major giving initiatives for University School. To develop and deepen partnerships among University School alumni, parents, and friends, in order to fulfill the school’s strategic aspirations.
  • Building and Grounds Committee

    Offer oversight for the maintenance of all property, plant and equipment for the Shaker and the Hunting Valley campuses and oversight responsibility for new construction activities on either campus.
  • Community and Equity Committee

    Offer oversight for the School’s efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion. To identify resources available through the parent and alumni constituents that may advise the School in this area.
  • Emeritus Committee

    Maintain the counsel and wisdom of the Past Presidents of the Board of Trustees
  • Finance Committee

    Provide oversight for all aspects of the School finances and budget process. Assist as advocates for sound budgeting practices.
  • Investment Committee

    Oversee the management of the School's endowment assets. Specific activities include interacting with outside advisors to help achieve a competitive rate of return for the School's endowment regarding asset allocation and the selection of investment managers.
  • Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee

    Evaluate the performance and functionality of the Board of Trustees. Continue to identify and recruit future candidates who can provide expertise and perspective that will allow the Board to function at a high level.
  • Retirement Advisory Committee

    Support the School’s commitment to uphold its fiduciary responsibilities as retirement plan sponsor and to be in compliance with material regulations and laws pertaining to the role of plan sponsor. Support the School's goal is to provide a competitive retirement plan benefit to eligible employees, within internal and external opportunities and constraints, to advance employee and participant retirement readiness.
